- Avoid overall overwhelm by focusing on one goal at a time.
- Restriction breeds rebellion. Allowance facilitates the ability to make a choice.
- When you sense yourself reacting negatively to someone else’s behavior, take a breath and remove yourself from the situation.
- After removing yourself from the situation, analyze it. Analyze your actions and analyze their actions from a neutral mindset. Then decide on a course of action to help you manage the negative feeling should you encounter it again in the future.
- Then, do something to calm yourself down (watch television, read a book, listen to a podcast, cook, etc). Finally, resume interacting with the individual as if nothing had happened. This represents to both yourself and the other part involved that you are capable and willing to move on from the incident.
